Democratic innovations in Youth Work
The DIYW is a project in collaboration with Germany and Poland. We will map out youth democratic innovations in the three countries and we’ll share the results in formal and non-formal education spaces.
The “Democratic innovations in Youth Work” project was born out of the desire to focus on new formats of democratic youth participation in different European countries. The union of youth professionals from Germany, Poland and Catalonia has given rise to this project.
The main goal is to get in touch with projects in different regions, where young people are the protagonists, and create material in different media (videos and guides) to help promote and disseminate these practices. It will take place between January 2021 and December 2023.
The materials we will produce and disseminate will be:
Videos
There will be three videos per country based on three different projects. Each video will explain how projects are being carried out that work to increase youth participation from an innovative and democratic perspective in different areas: housing, unemployment, gender violence, etc.
To do this:
- We’ll hire a video creator.
- We’ll contact a young person who will moderate the videos.
- We’ll plan and run the shooting of the video.
- We’ll edit and publish the audiovisual material.
Teaching guide
Together with the partners, we will develop a guide on research into democratic innovations and non-formal education methods for youth professionals.
To do this:
- We’ll investigate the concept of democratic innovations.
- We’ll develop the concept and content of the guide.
- We’ll test the material in schools and youth associations. The young people will participate in the testing and evaluation phase and their comments will be documented.
- We’ll review and incorporate the necessary changes resulting from the testing.
- The guide will be translated into 4 languages: Catalan, Spanish, German and Polish.
Training
We’ll conduct a training course to provide youth workers with the skills and knowledge on how to use the videos and teaching guide to introduce the topic of democratic innovations to their work, using non-educational methods. formal.
To do this:
- We’ll develop the concept and content.
- We’ll carry out tests and evaluations to implement the course in order to ensure that the course will be adapted to the expectations and needs of youth professionals..
- We’ll review and adapt the course after receiving feedback.
